Unique, Keyword-Rich, Page Titles
All pages on your website should have unique page titles. The title of your page appears in the web browser’s title bar (this is the blue bar at the top of the window. Have a look – the title of this page is “ADKC Web Design – Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Tip and Tricks”).
Your page title appears in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) if website is found by the search engine when someone searches for a word or phrase that is relevant to your business. It is the clickable link that will direct someone to that page on your website.
Why Do You Need Page Titles?
Your page title is important for the following reasons:
- It gives your human visitors an idea about what that page on your website is about. Each page in your website should focus on a different area of your business, so each page title should focus on the keywords that reflect that particular aspect of your business.
- It tells the search engine spiders (the little computer program sent by the search engines to collect data from the internet) what your page is about. The search engines want to display the most relevant results when someone does a search, so if it doesn’t know what your page is about, it is unlikely to recommend it as being relevant.
You should start by writing the content for your page (having done your keyword research first, of course!) and then summarise the page into a short, keyword-rich, page title.
